Setting up push notifications on iOS
The iOS app is the most reliable way to receive notifications about your truck — new orders, new booking inquiries, delivery state changes. Web browser notifications work too (covered briefly below), but the iOS app is the default everyone should set up first.
This article covers how to enable push notifications, what kinds you'll get, and how to fix it when something stops ringing.
What you'll need
- The Trucked Up iOS app installed (see Installing the iOS app).
- Signed in to the app with your owner account.
First-time setup
When you first sign in to the iOS app, iOS will pop a permission prompt:
"Trucked Up" Would Like to Send You Notifications. Notifications may include alerts, sounds, and icon badges. These can be configured in Settings.
Tap Allow.
That's it. From that point on, you'll get a push for everything in the list below.
What pushes you'll receive
| Notification | When |
|---|---|
| New order | A customer placed an order (pickup or delivery). Has a custom "new order" sound. |
| Order cancelled | A customer cancelled an order before you marked it Complete. |
| New booking inquiry | A customer submitted a booking inquiry for your truck. |
| Driver assigned | (Delivery only) DoorDash assigned a dasher to one of your orders. |
| Driver has the order | (Delivery only) The dasher picked up the order from your truck. |
| Delivered | (Delivery only) The dasher delivered the order to the customer. |
| Driver returning food / Delivery cancelled | (Delivery only) Delivery failed; dasher is returning the food or the order is cancelled. |
The "new order" sound is different from the default — once you've heard it a few times, you'll know an order just hit your truck without even looking at your phone.
What if you tapped Don't Allow
You can turn notifications back on without reinstalling the app:
On your iPhone, open Settings.
Scroll down and tap Trucked Up.
Tap Notifications.
Turn on Allow Notifications, plus Sounds, Badges, and Banners (Banners is what shows the notification at the top of your screen).
After enabling, open the Trucked Up app at least once so it can register with our system. The next notification you should receive will arrive normally.
Web browser notifications (optional)
If you also use the web dashboard at truckedup.food, you can let your browser show notifications when a new order arrives:
- Visit truckedup.food/owner/orders.
- Your browser will prompt you to allow notifications. Click Allow.
- From then on, every new order pops a small system notification (works on Mac, Windows, Linux).
Browser notifications need the tab to stay open to fire. Close the tab and they stop. Treat them as a backup to your iOS phone, not a replacement.
Sound + Do Not Disturb
Two iOS-specific things to be aware of:
- Silent mode / Focus modes can suppress the new-order sound even with notifications enabled. If you're working a quiet shift and want the sound, make sure your phone isn't in silent mode and that Trucked Up is allowed in your active Focus mode (Settings → Focus → [your mode] → Apps).
- Do Not Disturb during your shift defeats the whole point. Either turn DND off during shifts, or add Trucked Up as an allowed app in DND.
A note about TestFlight vs. App Store builds
Trucked Up is a production iOS app delivered via the App Store. If you're a beta tester and you have the app via TestFlight, push works the same. If you're a developer with a sideloaded or Xcode build of the app, push notifications won't fire — that's a constraint of how Apple's push environment is set up, and it's not anything you've done wrong. For everyone else (App Store / TestFlight), push works.
Common questions
I'm signed in but never get any notifications. Run through this checklist:
- Are notifications enabled in iOS Settings → Trucked Up → Notifications?
- Is your iPhone on Wi-Fi or cellular (not airplane mode)?
- Have you opened the app at least once after enabling notifications?
- Test by having someone place a sample order on your truck. If it doesn't ring, email us — sometimes our backend needs to refresh your device endpoint.
My phone rings for new orders but not for delivery state changes. Open Settings → Trucked Up → Notifications and confirm everything (Sounds, Badges, Banners) is on. If only some types arrive, that's an iOS notification-style setting, not Trucked Up — all our pushes use the same channel.
I have multiple iPhones — do they all ring? Yes. Every device signed in to your account gets every notification. Useful if you have a backup phone or if you and a teammate share an account on two devices.
Can I customize which pushes I get? Not yet — push types are all on or all off today. (Per-type toggles are on the roadmap.)
Can I get a push when one of my schedule stops is about to start? Not today. The current push types are listed above. If "schedule reminders" would help you, let us know.
The new-order sound is too quiet / I want to change it. The custom sound is set on our side and isn't yet adjustable per-owner. iOS's "Sounds" toggle in Settings → Trucked Up → Notifications turns it on/off, but doesn't let you swap it. Increase your phone's overall ringer volume during shifts.
